The care ribbon is a dedicated ribbon loaded in thermal transfer printers such as the Godex G530 to print wash instructions on nylon cross and satin care label fabric. It comes in only one size, 40mm wide and 300M long, and the manufacturer is listed as ITW. This one ribbon size prints all three care label fabric widths, 30, 35 and 40mm.
Roll end markings and ink side
The roll end is marked D-321 (Out Side) and 40 X 300. 40 X 300 means 40mm wide and 300M long, and Out Side means the ink-coated side is wound on the outside of the roll.
If the roll end marking is covered or the roll is already loaded in the printer, check with a label. Press the sticky corner of a label peeled from the liner onto the outer surface of the ribbon roll and peel it off; if black ink comes off, it is wound ink side out. If not, try once more on the other side.

A thermal transfer ribbon unwinds as far as the fabric feeds, so by length, 2 ribbon rolls match 3 rolls of care label fabric. If the ribbon is narrower than the fabric, the printhead wears quickly, so fabric printed with this ribbon is up to 40mm wide.
Godex G530 and GoodLabel Designer thermal transfer setup
- The G530 accepts ribbons 30–110mm wide and up to 300m long, so the 40mm × 300M care ribbon is within range for both width and length.
- In the Designer model list, the G530 is an EZPL, 300dpi entry. In the Printer settings window, select model G530 and resolution 300 DPI.
- If Print method in Printer settings is set to Thermal transfer, the ^AT command is sent to EZPL printers once before the first label of the session. If set to "Printer settings", the method command is left out and the printer prints with its stored method.
- If wash symbol strokes break up, raise Density in the Print window. EZPL density is 0–19 and the default is 13.

FAQ
- Which of the three grades, wax, wax/resin or resin, is the care ribbon?
- The product name and the roll end (D-321, 40 X 300) carry no grade marking, so it is not sold by grade. It is a ribbon made for 30–40mm nylon cross and satin care labels, so choose it by fabric.
- How many rolls of care label fabric does one ribbon roll print?
- The ribbon unwinds as far as the fabric feeds, so one 300M ribbon roll equals the length of 1.5 rolls of 200M fabric. If you space labels apart with the feed length, that much more fabric and ribbon is used.
- Can I use this ribbon on paper labels such as art paper?
- It comes only in 40mm, so it cannot print labels wider than 40mm, and it is sold as a care-label-only ribbon. For paper labels, use a wax ribbon, which comes in 40–110mm widths.
- How do I check whether a new roll is ink side out?
- Check the Out Side marking on the roll end first. If you cannot see it, press the adhesive side of a label onto the outer surface of the roll and peel it off to see whether black ink comes off.
