For the SLP-DX423, you must select the SLP-DX423 (ZPL, 300dpi) entry in GoodLabel Designer; if you send to the 203dpi SLP-DX420 entry, labels come out shrunk to about 68% of their size. The printer is a Bixolon 4-inch direct thermal only model with a 105.7mm print width and a max speed of 5ips.

If you select the SLP-DX420 (203dpi) right next to it in the Designer list instead of the SLP-DX423, labels come out shrunk to about 68% of their size. The printer is the same 4-inch direct thermal only body as the SLP-DX420 and prints 11.8 dots per mm, but its print width is 105.7mm and its max speed is 127mm per second (5ips), each slightly less than the DX420.
Dot counts for each template at 300dpi
The bitmap size GoodLabel Designer creates is the label mm × 300 ÷ 25.4, rounded up, in dots. The head width reaches 105.7mm across (1,248 dots), so every shared template prints in one pass.

The 100×150 shipping template, an image of about 960,000 dots at 203dpi, more than doubles to about 2.09 million dots at 300dpi. When you link data and send hundreds of different shipping labels, the amount of data sent grows by the same amount, so when printing multiple copies of the same content, use the Copies field and only one image and a ^PQ quantity command are sent.
Symptoms when the 203 entry is selected by mistake
The Designer model list has the SLP-DX420 (203dpi) and the SLP-DX423 (300dpi) side by side. If you select the 203 entry for a 300dpi printer, the 11.8-dot head receives an image drawn at 8 dots per mm, and the label content prints shrunk to about 68% both across and down.
If you get output like this, first check the printer model (resolution) in the status bar at the bottom of the screen, then change it to SLP-DX423 in the Printer settings window. When the resolution changes, barcode widths and QR module sizes are recalculated for 300dpi. Changing it in the Printer settings window leaves the zoom of the editing canvas as it is; the 300dpi default zoom of 60% is applied when you change the resolution under Printer settings in the ribbon or open a file with Open.
Windows printer name and automatic recognition
The Designer sets the model by looking for a model name from the list within the Windows printer name. If the name created by the driver contains SLP-DX423, the model and 300 DPI are filled in together; if you renamed the printer without the model name, you must select the list entry yourself in the Printer model field to finish the setup.
Clicking the Driver button in the Designer's Printer settings window opens the Bixolon unified driver page in the download center. Sold variants pair a USB or RS232 connection with or without a cutter.

FAQ
- Can I load the label rolls I used on the SLP-DX420 as they are?
- The two models have the same media requirements, so rolls 20–110mm wide, 0.06–0.20mm thick, up to 130mm in outer diameter, with a 25.4–38.1mm core load as they are. What differs is the printed width: the SLP-DX423 prints up to 105.7mm.
- What happens if I open a .glb file saved at 300dpi on a 203dpi printer?
- A .glb file stores the printer and resolution it was saved with, so opening it restores the 300dpi setting. To print on a 203dpi printer, change the model in Printer settings, check the recalculated barcode widths, then print.
- Is there anything to set in the Designer for units with the cutter option?
- The Designer settings are the same as for units without a cutter. Cutting after each label follows the printer's cutter default setting, so turn on the cutter in the manufacturer's setup utility and load media as usual.
