Bixolon SLP-TX403 label printer
The SLP-TX403 is a Bixolon model with a 300dpi head on the same 4-inch thermal transfer and direct thermal body as the SLP-TX400, with a dot size of about 0.085mm, a max of 5ips and a 105.7mm print width. In GoodLabel Designer, select the SLP-TX403 (ZPL, 300dpi) entry.

The SLP-TX403 has the same body and ribbon mechanism as the SLP-TX400, with only the head changed to 300dpi. Each dot shrinks to about 0.085mm, so text and QR codes on small part labels print sharply; in exchange, the max speed becomes 5ips (127mm/s) and the print width 105.7mm.
How to choose between the TX400 and the TX403

For labels 100mm wide or narrower, neither model cuts off anything across. For mostly large text and 1D barcodes, such as outer box labels, the faster TX400 fits; for labels that pack text and 2D codes into a small area, the TX403 fits.
Ribbon grades for label materials
The TX403 accepts all three ribbon grades, wax, wax/resin and resin, and loads only rolls wound with the ink side out. Wax fits paper labels, wax/resin fits coated paper and matte synthetic paper, and resin fits synthetic paper in general, such as Yupo; the more a label is exposed to scratches or chemicals, the higher the grade to use.
For paper labels, the 300m variant of GoodLabel's wax ribbon is wound ink side out and loads as is; choose a width from 40–110mm that is at least the roll width. With the print method in the Designer's Printer settings set to Thermal transfer, ^MTT is sent before the first label.

The ribbon sensor is off at shipment, so to have the first combination signal the end of the ribbon, first turn the sensor on by command or with the manufacturer's setup utility.

FAQ
- Can I use label files made for the SLP-TX400 on the SLP-TX403 as they are?
- Opening a .glb file restores the 203dpi setting it was saved with, so change the model to SLP-TX403 in Printer settings. As the resolution changes to 300, barcode widths and 2D code module sizes are recalculated, so scan the first label.
- The print method step does not appear in the Troubleshoot window.
- This happens when a direct thermal only model (for example, XD3-40d, the first entry in the list) is picked up in the window's Printer model field. Type TX403 in the Printer model field and select SLP-TX403 from the list, and the first step for choosing thermal transfer or direct thermal appears again.
- Can I use it with thermal media only, without a ribbon?
- Yes. Remove the ribbon, load thermal media, and change the print method in the Designer's Printer settings to Direct thermal; ^MTD is sent before the first label. Also save Direct thermal (no ribbon) in the Troubleshoot window.
