Bixolon SLP-DX223 label printer
A 2-inch direct thermal printer for dense text and QR codes on small labels 10–20mm tall, using the SLP-DX220 body with a head of about 11.8 dots per mm (print width 56.9mm, max 4ips). In the Designer model list it appears under its sales name, SLP-DX223, with a single ZPL, 300dpi setting.

If you need two lines of text or a QR code on a label only about 10mm tall, such as 30×10mm, look at the SLP-DX223 among 2-inch direct thermal printers. The body is the same as the SLP-DX220, it prints about 11.8 dots per mm, and its print width is 56.9mm, 2.9mm wider than the DX220. The max speed is 4ips (101.6mm/s), lower than the DX220's 6ips.
More dots on small labels
GoodLabel Designer draws the label as a bitmap and sends it, and the number of dots across and down is set by mm × resolution ÷ 25.4. The table below shows how much denser the same label becomes on the SLP-DX223.

With two lines of text on a label 10mm tall, each line gets just over 40 dots at 203dpi, but about 59 dots at 300dpi, so strokes blur less. Anything beyond 56.9mm across does not print, so even with a 60mm-wide roll, keep elements within 56.9mm.
The 300dpi entry and changing resolution
The SLP-DX223 in the Designer model list has only ZPL commands at 300dpi. When you select the model, the Resolution radio button is set to 300 DPI. The default zoom of 60% on the editing canvas is applied when you change the resolution to 300 under Printer settings in the ribbon or open a file with Open; changing only the model in the Printer settings window leaves the zoom as it is.
Opening a .glb file made for the SLP-DX220 restores the 203dpi setting it was saved with. Changing to the 300dpi entry in Printer settings recalculates all barcode widths and 2D code module sizes for 300dpi, so scan the first label of a transferred template to check it. Errors shown by the two LEDs and what to do in the Designer

Green blinking with red on means paused, green on with red blinking means waiting to cancel printing, and both LEDs blinking green means the printer is waiting for a button press after the cover is closed. If a job sent from the Designer does not come out on paper, check these three combinations before the error table.
Sold variants and driver
The printer is sold in one of four combinations of a USB or RS232 connection with or without a cutter. Install the driver with the Bixolon unified driver from the download center, and if the Windows printer name contains SLP-DX223, the Designer recognizes the model on its own.

FAQ
- Which is right for me, the SLP-DX220 or the SLP-DX223?
- If your labels are small, 10–20mm tall, and hold two or more lines of text or a QR code, choose the 300dpi model, which prints about 11.8 dots per mm. If you print large text and 1D barcodes on labels 50×30mm or larger and need speed, the SLP-DX220, with a max of 6ips, is faster.
- How do the media requirements change with the peeler option?
- The accepted media width narrows from 15–60mm to 15–58mm, and it is used only with label stock that has a liner. Load the media with the first label removed, move the peeler switch to ON, then turn the power off and on again to apply the peeling operation.
- The Troubleshoot window has no print method step. Is that normal?
- Yes. The Designer classifies models starting with SLP-DX as direct thermal only, skips the print method step, and shows only three steps: Label type → Save to printer → Detect media. Direct thermal (^MTD) is added automatically when saving.
