Honeywell PC42E-T label printer
The PC42E-T is Honeywell's 4-inch desktop thermal transfer printer succeeding the PC42T, for ink-side-out ribbons on 1-inch and 0.5-inch cores. GoodLabel Designer v3.3.22 prints the PC42e as a DPL entry via the Windows driver, so the Designer's print method, media and density fields do not apply.

The PC42E-T is the Honeywell model that GoodLabel Designer prints to through the Windows driver instead of sending ZPL directly. It is a 4-inch desktop thermal transfer printer that succeeds the PC42T, and the Designer's print method, media type, density and speed fields do not apply; it prints according to the driver settings.
Why the Designer prints to the PC42E-T through the driver
The Designer v3.3.22 model list has two rows named PC42e. One is a DPL entry and the other a ZPL entry, but only the name is saved in the model field, and at print time it is handled as the DPL entry, which comes first in the list.
For DPL printers, the Designer does not create RAW commands; it draws the label as an image and passes it to the Windows driver. In Print options in Printer settings, only Print rotated 180° remains, and the 4 fields Print as image, Print method, Media type and Gap length do not appear; the Print window also shows guidance on driver settings instead of the density and speed sliders.

If you have not installed the driver yet, open the Honeywell software download page with the Download driver button in the Designer Printer settings window. For the PC42E-T, handled as the DPL entry in the first row of the list, every print sent from the Designer goes through this driver.
Label and ribbon specifications for the PC42E-T
- Media width is 25.4–114mm, roll outer diameter up to 127mm, and cores are 25.4mm and 38.1mm. It accepts gap labels, continuous media, notch, black mark and fanfold.
- Minimum label length is 9.6mm, and print width is up to 108mm. Enter the Designer width within 108mm as well.
- Only ribbon rolls with the ink side out can be loaded. A 1-inch (25.4mm) core roll holds up to 300m and a 0.5-inch roll up to 74m; roll diameter is 68mm and width 25.4–110mm.
The ribbon core size can be switched directly between 1 inch and 0.5 inch, so long 300m ribbons and short 74m ribbons can be mixed to suit the workload. The ECO button on the printer is a saving mode that reduces calibration wait time and wasted labels.
Resolution and speed
The PC42E-T comes in 203dpi and 300dpi, with a standard print speed of 100mm/s (4ips). The top speed is 6ips at 203dpi and 5ips at 300dpi, and the maximum print length of one label is 4826mm at 203dpi and 2159mm at 300dpi.
Press the Designer resolution button that matches the printer, so barcode widths are calculated to the printer's dot size. If you change the resolution later, barcode widths and 2D code module sizes are recalculated, so set it before creating the layout.

FAQ
- The Print method and Media type fields do not appear in the Designer Printer settings.
- This is because the Designer handles the PC42e as a DPL entry and prints through the Windows driver. In this case only Print rotated 180° remains in the Designer Print options, and thermal transfer/direct thermal and media sensing follow the driver settings.
- Can I load a ribbon wound ink side in on the PC42E-T?
- The PC42E-T takes ribbon rolls with the ink side out. Check the ink side first when buying ribbon, and choose between a 1-inch core (up to 300m) and a 0.5-inch core (up to 74m).
- PC42e appears in two rows in the model field. Which one do I choose?
- In v3.3.22, whichever row you choose, only the model name PC42e is saved, and printing is handled by the DPL entry, which comes first in the list. So either row results in driver printing, and all that is left is to choose the resolution button that matches your printer.
