Even though the material withstands water, the print surface is direct thermal, so the background darkens if left for a long time under fluorescent light, in direct sunlight or near heat. They suit labels that may get wet but are used and removed within a week to a year; if the label must last years in sunlight, ribbon-printed YUPO labels are the choice.
GoodLabel Designer setup
- Open the product barcode shared template for 50×30, the blank label for 60×40, and the product information for 80×40 to start with a document already set to the right size.
- For small sizes such as 40×20, enter width 40 and height 20 in a new document. On a 300dpi printer one label is 473 dots wide and 237 dots high, so do a test print to check that the dots do not blur even with a small barcode module size.
- Even for waterproof labels, the Print method field is Direct thermal; remove any ribbon loaded in a dual-mode printer before loading the roll. The commands added for each language are on the direct thermal fanfold labels 100x150 page, and recalibrating the sensor with Detect media after a roll change is on the direct thermal roll labels page.

FAQ
- Is the 50x25 size available in other GoodLabel labels?
- The 16 direct thermal paper sizes and the 6 sizes of ribbon YUPO labels do not include 50x25. 50x25mm with 1,800 labels is a size found only in YUPO direct thermal labels.
- Can I use the product information template as is on 80x40 YUPO direct thermal labels?
- The product information template in GoodLabel Designer Templates is 80×40mm, so the size is the same. Open it as a new document, change only the product information and storage fields, and print.
- Should I buy YUPO direct thermal or YUPO labels?
- If you cannot load a ribbon in the printer, or the waterproof labels are used for less than a year, choose YUPO direct thermal. If you print labels that stay on for several years on a thermal transfer printer with a ribbon, choose from the 6 sizes of YUPO labels.
- Will a barcode on a small 40x20 label scan?
- On a 300dpi printer one label is 473 dots wide, so there is more room to set a small barcode module size than at 203dpi. Set the module size in GoodLabel Designer, then print 1 label and scan it with a scanner.
