GoodLabel direct thermal roll labels are direct thermal paper that turns black when heated, so they print on direct thermal label printers without a ribbon. There are 16 sizes from 30×10mm to 100×150mm, and the variant name also states the number of labels wound on one roll.

Single rolls are split between two products: the 6 sizes up to 50×35mm are in the "30x10 x 3800" product and the 10 sizes from 60×30mm up are in the "60x30 x 1500" product. All 16 sizes are also sold as a 1 SET (6 rolls) product, and the 9 sizes of water-resistant YUPO direct thermal (waterproof labels) are included only in the set product among these three.
Matching printers and print method
The labels are 30–100mm wide, so they are for direct thermal label printers that accept these widths, and thermal transfer printers can use them as is once the ribbon is removed. The Zebra ZD421T and TSC TE210 support both direct thermal and thermal transfer.
The 100mm-wide sizes print in one pass on 4-inch class printers with a print width over 100mm. The ZD421T (203dpi) has a print width of 104mm and the TE210 has 108mm.
Direct thermal paper darkens when exposed for a long time to heat, fluorescent light or direct sunlight, and text and barcodes fade. It suits short-term labels that are used and removed within a week at the shortest and a year at the longest; labels that stay on for years last with thermal transfer labels printed with a ribbon.
Using these labels in GoodLabel Designer
- Templates on the start screen include the 50×30 product barcode, 60×40 blank label, 70×40 asset management, 80×40 product information and 100×150 shipping templates, so for the same sizes in the table you start with a document already set to the right size.
- For other sizes, enter Label size in mm exactly as the actual label in a new document. Width and height each accept 1–1000mm, with up to two decimal places.
- The 40×30 storage template cannot be used as is, because 40×30 is not among the direct thermal roll label sizes. The Designer does not stretch or crop a design to a different size, so rearrange the elements in a new 40×25 document.
- In Printer settings, set Print method to Direct thermal and Media type to Gap labels. TSPL printers such as TSC measure the space between labels and enter it in Gap length (default 3mm); ZPL printers such as Zebra do not use Gap length and find the gap with Detect media.
- If labels feed out misaligned or blank labels appear after loading a new roll, recalibrate the label sensor with Detect media in the Troubleshoot window.

FAQ
- Do I need to buy a ribbon too?
- This is direct thermal paper, so no ribbon is needed. If a ribbon is loaded in a thermal transfer printer, remove it and change Print method in GoodLabel Designer Printer settings to Direct thermal before printing.
- How many labels are on one roll?
- For each size, the count written in the variant name is one roll. 30×10mm has 3,800 labels, 50×30mm has 1,500 labels, and 100×150mm has 300 labels.
- Are there labels for places that get wet?
- The 6-roll set product includes 9 separate sizes of YUPO direct thermal (waterproof labels), from 40×20mm to 100×100mm. The print method is the same ribbonless direct thermal as the direct thermal paper.
- Can I use them for asset labels that stay on for several years?
- Direct thermal paper darkens when exposed to heat and light for a long time, so it suits short-term labels of about a week to a year. For labels that must last several years, thermal transfer printing with a ribbon on art paper or YUPO is the right choice.
- How do I match the size in the Designer?
- For 50×30, 60×40, 70×40, 80×40 and 100×150mm, opening the shared template in Templates gives you the size already set. For the other sizes, enter the width and height in mm as they are in Label size for a new document.
