Bixolon XD5-40t label printer
The XD5-40t is a Bixolon 4-inch desktop printer (203dpi, 108mm, max 6ips): thermal transfer with a ribbon, direct thermal without. In GoodLabel Designer, select XD5-40t (ZPL, 203dpi) and save print method and label type in the Troubleshoot window, commands GoodLabel confirmed on firmware V01.50.

The XD5-40t is a Bixolon 4-inch desktop model that prints thermal transfer with a ribbon loaded and direct thermal without one, at 203dpi, a max speed of 6ips (152mm/s) and a print width of 108mm. The media setting commands sent by the Designer's Troubleshoot window are also the combination GoodLabel confirmed on this model (firmware V01.50).
Settings the Troubleshoot window leaves on the printer
When the Printer model field shows XD5-40t in the Troubleshoot window, opened from ≫ at the top right of the Designer, four steps open in order: Print method, Label type, Save to printer and Detect media. What each step leaves on the printer is shown below.

When you click Detect media, the printer feeds several labels to measure the length, so it is normal for the first few labels to come out blank. After saving, the message below the Detect media button in the window changes to orange and reads "Saved — run this step".

Ribbons for this printer are wound ink side out, up to 300m, 33–110mm wide, and both 0.5-inch and 1-inch cores are used. The 300m variant of GoodLabel's wax ribbon is wound ink side out, so the direction is correct, and thermal media for use without a ribbon can be chosen from thermal roll labels.
Driver and sold variant
The sold variant has a single USB connection option, and the printer's standard ports are USB and USB host. Download the English manual PDF from XD5-40t user guide and the installer from the Bixolon unified driver page in the download center. If the Windows printer name contains XD5-40t, the Designer fills in the model and 203 DPI together.

FAQ
- Are the settings lost when I turn off the power after saving in the Troubleshoot window?
- The Save to printer step also sends ^JUS, which permanently saves the print method and media sensing method, so they remain after the power is turned off and on. Save again in the same window only when you change the roll or ribbon setup.
- Is there a 300dpi thermal transfer model in the Designer list?
- The XD5-43t from the same series is listed as a ZPL, 300dpi entry. Its print width is 105.7mm and its max speed is 4ips (102mm/s).
- What do I change each time I switch between thermal and thermal transfer labels?
- Along with removing or loading the ribbon, change the print method in the Designer's Printer settings to Direct thermal (^MTD) or Thermal transfer (^MTT). If you leave the print method set to Printer settings, the Designer does not send a method, so in that case save the new method again in the Troubleshoot window.
