Toshiba BV420D label printer
The Toshiba BV420D is a 4-inch desktop printer that prints on thermal paper only, no ribbon: up to 177.8mm/s at 203dpi (GS) and 127mm/s at 300dpi (TS), on rolls or fanfold media. In GoodLabel Designer's BV420D (TPCL) entry, click 203 or 300 DPI to match the head, and print via the Toshiba driver.

The Toshiba BV420D is a 4-inch desktop printer that prints only on thermal paper, without a ribbon, and takes both rolls and fanfold media in a 174mm wide body. The GoodLabel Designer v3.3.22 list has a BV420D entry (TPCL) under the same name as the sold model, with two buttons, 203 and 300 DPI, so after choosing the model, click the DPI that matches the printer's head.
100x150mm shipping label settings
If you start from the 100x150mm shipping label shared template in the designer, the label size is set right away. Toshiba entries draw this label as an image and pass it to the driver with the width and height in mm as the paper size, so the number of dots in the image depends on the DPI you choose.

A 100mm wide label fits within the print width of both heads. The BV420D is direct thermal only, so leave Print Method on the Stock tab of the Toshiba driver at Direct thermal, and set Sensor and Label Gap to match the roll. Why a button the screen labels "Printer settings" appears on the designer screen instead of the density and speed fields is explained on the BA420T page.
For rolls, the 100x150mm size of GoodLabel thermal roll labels (300 labels per roll) fits. Fanfold media is stacked behind the printer with the print side up and fed through the rear feed slot.
Roll cores and the external stand
- Rolls up to 127mm in outer diameter fit inside the printer, and 25.4, 38.1 and 42mm cores are accepted.
- The core holder of the roll support is installed for 38.1 and 42mm at the factory, so for a roll with a 25.4mm core, remove the holder, turn it over, reinsert it, then load the roll.
- Rolls with a 76.2mm core or larger than 127mm in outer diameter (up to 214mm) require the separately sold external stand.
- Inside-wound labels are also used only with a 76.2mm core and the external stand.
The length of one label is 8-997mm for continuous issue, and the gap between labels and the black mark length are 2-10mm. The printer's limit is 3mm shorter than the designer Height field limit of 1000mm, so make long labels within 997mm.

When the power is turned on, the printer loads its built-in fonts for about 30 seconds; after 10 seconds, ONLINE blinks at 0.5-second intervals, then changes to on. Do not turn the power off while ONLINE is blinking, and after fixing an error, return the printer with the PAUSE button.

FAQ
- I chose the BV420D entry, but the resolution is empty.
- The BV420D entry has two buttons, 203 and 300 DPI, so if the queue name does not include a DPI number, it is not set automatically. Click 203 DPI for GS in the printer model name, or 300 DPI for TS.
- Can I load a ribbon instead of thermal paper?
- The BV420D is direct thermal only, so it has no place to load a ribbon. If you need labels printed with a ribbon, use the thermal transfer and direct thermal BV420T of the same BV400 family.
- After changing the shipping label roll, the position is shifted.
- Each time you change the media type, redo the sensor measurement with the Toshiba BCP Setting Tool, and set Sensor and Label Gap on the Stock tab of the driver for the new roll. Also check that the designer label size matches the new roll.
