Zebra ZT231 label printer
The ZT231 is a Zebra 4-inch industrial printer (203/300 dpi) with touch menus for darkness, label type and media handling. GoodLabel Designer overrides density, speed, media type and print method (unless "Printer settings") by command, not media handling, so only the output mode is set on the unit.

The ZT231 is a Zebra 4-inch industrial printer on which darkness, label type and media handling are chosen in a 4.3-inch touchscreen menu. GoodLabel Designer overrides several of those menu items with print commands, so first decide which settings to make on the unit and which to make in the Designer.

The commands in the table are placed before the first label of every print job. The media type is always sent, so change it in the Designer to match the roll each time you change rolls; the reason the output mode is chosen on the unit is given in the peel-off and rewinder section of the ZT411 page.
Tear Line Offset on the unit ranges from −120 to +120 dots, and the larger the number, the further the media comes out. The Designer's Tear-off position also moves the media further out with a positive (+) value, so the sign is the same in both places.

The dot counts in the table are within the upper limit of the unit's label width menu (203 dpi 832 dots, 300 dpi 1248 dots), so widths up to 104 mm can be entered as they are. The calculation that rounds up in 8-dot steps is on the ZT421 page.
If the Windows printer name contains 203dpi or 300dpi along with ZT231, the model and resolution button are filled in at once; if there is no resolution in the name, click the button yourself.

FAQ
- What do I change in the Designer to peel labels off one at a time in peel mode?
- The Designer has no field for changing the output mode. Select Peel-Off in Print > Image Adjust > Media Handling on the unit, and make labels at least 12.7 mm long, the minimum length for peel mode.
- The darkness I set on the unit changes when I print from the Designer.
- Each time the Designer prints, it sends the density number from the Print window with ~SD, overriding the setting in the unit's darkness menu. Set the darkness you want with the density (0–30) in the Designer's Print window.
- Can I load the GoodLabel wax ribbon 300M on the ZT231?
- The 300M roll has the ink side out, so it matches the ZT231's winding direction, and its 40–110 mm width variants are the same as the ribbon width range. However, the ZT231 takes ribbon rolls with a 25.4 mm core ID and an OD of 81.3 mm or less, so check these two dimensions on the roll you receive before loading it.
