TSC TX310 label printer

With a dot size of about 0.085 mm (300 dpi), the TSC TX310 prints small text and barcodes more finely than the TX210, but its top speed is 152 mm/s and its print width 106 mm. Select TX310 (TSPL, 300 dpi) in GoodLabel Designer and labels are sent as bitmaps at about 11.8 dots per mm.

The TX310 is the middle resolution of the TX series, with a 300 dpi head that prints 12 dots per mm. Each dot is about 0.085 mm, so small text and dense barcodes are sharper than at 203 dpi; in exchange, the top speed drops to 152 mm per second, the print width to 106 mm and the single label length to 11,430 mm.

The size (226×198×332 mm), 3.75 kg weight, 90W external adapter and 8-icon LED panel are exactly the same as the TX210. So the choice between the two models is decided not by the printer but by the size of the text and codes you put on the labels.

Print data the Designer creates at 300 dpi

The TX310 entry in the GoodLabel Designer model list has only TSPL and 300 dpi, so if the name registered with the TSC unified driver contains TX310, the model and 300 DPI are filled in together. The Designer draws labels at about 11.8 dots per mm and sends them as bitmaps, so a 50×30 mm product barcode layout that was 400 dots wide and 240 dots high at 203 dpi becomes 591 and 355 dots on the TX310.

When you change the resolution to 300 in the Printer settings panel, or open a .glb file saved at 300 dpi with Open, the editing zoom is set to 60% (100% for 203 dpi). If you open the file by double-clicking or from Recent files, the zoom from when it was saved is restored, and changing the resolution in the Printer settings window does not change the zoom either. In every case, the actual label size does not change.

When you change the resolution, the width of all barcodes and the 2D code module sizes are recalculated for the new resolution. Barcode widths may change, so if you brought over a layout made for the TX210, check the placement again and read the first label with a scanner. The screen locations are in the Barcode chapter of the guide.

106 mm print width and narrow labels

The TX310 accepts media 19–112 mm wide, but the width actually printed is 106 mm. A 100 mm wide label fits entirely within 106 mm, but if you load wide media around 110 mm, the portion beyond 106 mm does not print, so keep the Designer label width within 106 mm as well.

At the short end, label lengths from 3 mm are accepted. Media must be 19 mm wide or more and 0.055–0.254 mm thick, and only rolls on 1-inch or 1.5-inch cores, up to 127 mm in outer diameter, wound with the printed side out, fit.

The ribbon roll conditions are identical to the TX210, so follow the ribbon paragraph on the TX210 page. If you often print small text with the 300 dpi head, choose thermal roll labels, used without a ribbon, within the same 106 mm width as well.

When labels come out skewed or are skipped

  • If labels drift to one side and come out at an angle, the media guides are not touching the roll edges. If they drift right, move the guides to the left; if they drift left, move them to the right.
  • Labels come out blank one at a time for three reasons: a wrong label size setting, uncalibrated sensor sensitivity or dust on the sensor. Match the Designer label size to the roll, recalibrate with Detect media (AUTODETECT) in the Troubleshoot window, and blow off the gap/black mark sensor with a blower.
  • If the left or right edge of the label is missing, the Designer label size differs from the roll, so match the width and height in mm to the actual label. Gray lines on blank labels are a separate issue caused by a dirty head, so clean the head.
  • Print position shifting on small labels is caused by sensor sensitivity, label and gap size settings, the printer's Shift Y or the driver's vertical offset. In Designer RAW printing, the mm in the Gap length field is sent as the GAP line, so enter the actual gap in 0.5 mm steps; when using "Print as image", also check the driver offset.

FAQ

How do I calibrate only the black mark sensor on the TX310?
On the printer, hold the FEED button with the power off, turn it on, and release when the set of 5 red flashes comes around for the fourth time; only black mark calibration runs. In the Designer, set the media type to Black mark, click the Detect black mark button, then turn the power off and on.
Can I load the labels and ribbons I used on the TX210 in the TX310 as they are?
The media and ribbon specs are the same for both models, so load them as they are. However, a TX210 layout filled out to the full 108 mm width loses the edges beyond the TX310's 106 mm, so move elements inward.
How does the TX310 indicate that the ribbon has run out?
If the ribbon runs out or is loaded incorrectly, the ribbon-out indicator on the LED panel lights, and it clears when you replace or reload the ribbon. The ribbon end sensor is a factory option on the TX310 and is standard only on the TX610.
